Carson, founded in 1968, is a city in Los Angeles County in the US state of California. In 2008 it had a population of 92,366 inhabitants and a population density of 1,838.7 people per km². Incorporated on April 4, 1968, Carson is the youngest municipality in the South Bay region of the Los Angeles area.
Carson's economy is based primarily on manufacturing. About half of the Carson area is taken up by factories, oil refineries, and other industrial structures. Carson also has a diverse ethnic makeup consisting of Hispanics, Filipinos, Blacks, and Samoans.
As of the 2000 census, there are 89,730 people, 24,648 households, and 20,236 families residing in the city. The population density is 1,838'9 hab /km².
There are 24,648 households of which 39.2% have children under 18 years of age. 58.7% are married couples, 17.2% have a wife with no husband present, and 17.9% are not families. In 14.2% of the homes there are people living alone and 5.9% have someone over 65 living alone.
